Abstract
The paper is concerned with the occurrence of harmonic voltage components and the current curve shape distortion in electrical engineering systems, as well as energy indicators, unloading of the supply network and power transformer of a substation during voltage stabilization at the transformer substation input with standard and new multistage reactor-thyristor start-up device. These issues were investigated when there was a positive and negative voltage deviation in the supply network within ±16% in ±2.5% increments of the nominal level. The purpose of these studies is to determine the effect of existing and proposed start-up control devices on the sinusoidal currents and voltages of electrical systems, as well as to identify the voltage deviation effect of the supply network on the electrical system operation. These studies were conducted in the Matlab environment on a simulation model of a 1000 kV transformer substation and with a voltage of 6/0.4 kV. The results of the study confirmed that the proposed technical solution does not affect the sinusoidal voltage of the supply network and the electrical system currents when the voltage is stabilized in the substation. In the process of voltage stabilization between the limits, it creates a maximum voltage distortion in the power transformer and in electricity consumers by 2.98% when the voltage in the supply network decreases by -10% and by 2.35% when it rises from the nominal level, which do not exceed the normally permissible standards established by domestic and foreign GOST standards. In addition, the results of numerical experiments have established that the proposed device does not degrade the values of the power coefficients, efficiency and energy parameters of the electrical system, at the same time, providing continuous voltage regulation over wide ranges. The proposed device maintains the rated voltage in the substation when the supply voltage deviates within the above limits and, thus reduces the power coefficients and energy performance of the supply network. The research results also confirm that the new technical solution, by stabilizing the voltage, does not overload the power transformer and consumers of additional energy in the event of a positive voltage deviation in the supply network over a wide range. It was also shown that when the device operates and when a negative voltage drop occurs in the supply network, power transformers and electricity consumers do not experience a shortage of consumed energy, which leads not only to maintaining normal operation, but also to improving their functioning.
