Abstract

The paper presents the results of a study of factors that shape the general and the specific electricity consumption in industrial water systems. The studies were conducted for three independent water utilities of the Republic of Belarus. As a result, a link between electricity consumption, amounts raised from the water wells and ambient temperature was established. It was found that the conditional constant electricity consumption up to 80% of the total electricity consumption of water-supply companies. The most significant contribution to defining the constancy electricity consumption is the need to continuously maintain the pressure in the system dictating the points even in the absence of water consumption. It was found that the territorial expansion of pipeline networks leads to an increase of conditionally constant component of electricity consumption and increase of the sensitivity of specific energy consumption as well as to changes in production volumes. The results of the scientific research can be used by organizations utilities providing water services, the analysis of effectiveness of the implementation of energy saving measures and the choice of priorities of the economy of energy resources.
