Abstract

A review and analysis of existing methods for insulated wires flaw detection is presented. It is shown that despite the large number of existing flaw detection methods and devices, the development of universal and accurate quality control systems for insulated wires remains a pressing and sought-after task. A new radio wave non-destructive method for flaw detection of insulated wires is proposed. It is implemented by applying a primary circular vortex electric field, generated by the alternating electric charge of a tubular excitation electrode to the insulating wire coating. This field creates a secondary circular vortex electric field in this coating, which induces eddy currents in the surface layers of the wire conductive element. These currents initiate a traveling magnetic H-wave in the body of the conductive element, whose transverse component induces an alternating electric charge in an electric tubular antenna encircling the insulated wire. The charge potential in the receiving resonant parallel LC circuit of the electric antenna excites a resonant alternating current, creating a resonant self-inductive EMF in the LC circuit. Quadrature detection and subsequent algorithmic processing of this EMF are used to determine the wire insulation and conductive core parameters. A structural diagram for implementing the proposed method for monitoring the parameters and insulated wire flaw detection, as well as the main functional unit design of this circuit, is proposed. The testing process theoretical description is provided and analytical expressions are obtained for calculating the insulation electrical conductivity and the conductive core conductivity of the insulated wire tested section. A structural block diagram of the proposed testing method hardware implementation and the basic electrical circuits of its main functional units and information signal processing subsystems are presented. The main advantages of the proposed testing method are demonstrated.
